Detailed Information

Mya Louw, originally from the Netherlands, has lived, studied and worked in South Africa, Europe and the United States. Her formal classical art training began at 13 and she is a graduate in Fine Arts from Rhodes University, South Africa. She continues her studies in the exciting quest for an “ultimate painting”.

The Award-winning artist’s earlier work was largely influenced by the Dutch School and later, the bright colors of the African landscape. Now she is known for her large landscapes, slightly abstracted, filled with vivid color and joy, executed in oil, acrylic or pastel with palette knife and brush. The work portrays the vast and beautiful terrain of California that she calls home.

The alternative, fun images of her “ladies” who provocatively pout or pose in humor and bright color, are her delight. The artist is honored to donate or lend the to Child/women Abuse charities, cancer research e.g. UC Breast Cancer Endowment Fund, amongst others. Her work may be found in private and corporate collections in the United States, Holland, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, Zimbabwe and South Africa. Amongst her clients are American Express, UC Davis, Mercy Hospital, Kaiser Permanente, Granite Bay Ventures, Capital Builders, Transworld and BP South Africa.

Louw’s work has been invited to the Crocker Art Museum Auction, and she had a two man show with Gregory Kondos at the Blue Line Gallery. Louw paints full-time either in Cape Town or California and welcomes aficionados to her studio.
