About

The Roseville Rock Rollers Gem and Mineral Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering interest in the earth sciences and the lapidary arts. Founded in 1960, our purpose is to bring together, in good fellowship, individuals who are interested in the earth sciences, and the arts of lapidary and gemology, with the intent of furthering their knowledge, abilities, and comprehension of those arts and sciences.

As part of the Placer Artists Tour, our Lapidary Shop will highlight one of the core aspects of our creative practice: cabochon making. This hands-on process involves cutting, grinding, and polishing stones to create smooth, domed gemstones that reveal the unique patterns and colors formed by nature over millennia. Through this work, our students connect with the geological world in a deeply creative and personal way.

While our Society engages in a broad range of educational programs, field trips, and geological exploration, the cabochon-making process provides a tangible expression of our mission—where curiosity about the natural world is paired with craftsmanship and artistic expression. Visitors are invited to explore the tools we use, view finished pieces created by our students, and learn more about lapidary arts through our demonstrations.
