Christine Kotcher

My art brings the outside world inside through paintings of nature on canvas and paper. I strive to contribute to the proud legacy of landscape painting in a way that is traditional and at the same time my own. While representing subject matter from the natural world, my art also allows the materials and brush strokes to exist on their own terms, for their own sake. I am inspired by the outdoors of the West Coast and my artwork shares and mirrors my love of nature’s calming presence, strength, resilience, and delicacy. I feel that the natural world and the process of applying paint to a surface are as significant to humans now as they ever were, and it seems as if sometimes we have forgotten this. I want my art to be worthy of my love of nature, to celebrate it, to connect us with it, as artists have been doing for thousands of years.
