C. John Dominguez
As a lapidary and silversmith, my work is rooted in deep respect for the geological forces that shape our planet. Each stone I cut and set is a fragment of Earth’s story formed over millions of years by pressure, heat, and time. My background in geology informs not only the materials I choose but also of the way I approach their transformation.
I seek to honor the natural beauty and structure of minerals, often letting their inherent patterns and imperfections guide the design. The silver I use becomes a frame and contrast—bright, malleable, and human-made—around the ancient, unyielding mineral forms. In my work, I aim to bridge the slow power of Earth’s processes with the immediacy of human craftsmanship.
Creating jewelry is both a scientific and spiritual practice for a way to connect with the Earth on an elemental level. Each piece is a wearable reminder of deep time, natural wonder, and the enduring beauty found beneath the surface or at times when examining a fresh road cut.
