About

Metal Arts Academy was created in 2017 by goldsmith Michael R Kosinski as a way to pass on skills and knowledge gained from his 40+ years as a goldsmith. Trained as an apprentice at Van Craeynest, Inc in San Francisco, he apprenticed under master die cutters, diamond setters, polishers, and fabricators. Van Craeynest manufactured fine jewelry and it was there that Michael was taught the importance of the fine detail and finishing of each and every piece that came across his bench.

Today Michael shares his knowledge and skills with his students while emphasizing the importance of precision, detail, and repetition while practicing. It is our goal to train students in the skills needed so they can create and bring their ideas to life in metal. Whether they are interested in fine jewelry or craft jewelry, a strong skills background can be the key to success.

Metal Arts Academy offers a variety of classes ranging from beginning to advanced in jewelry fabrication, stone setting, wax carving and casting, soldering, wire wrapping, copper craft jewelry, engraving, and chasing. The metal arts classes include coppersmithing, anticlastic raising, and chasing and repousse in metal.
