Pat Martin
My style is what you might call geometric abstract, or “geo-scapes” if you will, generally with stark black and white contrast involved, and often using three or four different shades of black acrylic paint to create a subliminal texture.
Combining symmetry with free-flowing form and shape, my work could be described as chaos within symmetry, or “organized chaos”, which often reflects the world we live in. I try to create areas in each painting that tell a story, one in which the viewer conjures up a narrative within their own imagination, coming up with their own interpretation and ultimate outcome of what they’re seeing.
My work provokes thought and wonder and gives the viewer the chance to apply their personal storytelling, as they unpack the geometry and portals of one’s imagined world.
My influences in what I paint range from the mid-century architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright to many international cultures, such as the art of the ancient Egyptians and the Mayans. I find inspiration in almost everything I see…the shape of an interesting building and the shadow it casts, a ripple of water and the rays of sunshine in a body of water, or a pattern in an ancient cultural carving. I’m always experimenting and dreaming of ways to create new art, learning and growing with each new project, and hopefully creating a sense of enchantment and enlightenment.
