Kathy Sinclair

My art is always evolving, exploring different ideas, colors and techniques. I am now obsessed with using water mixable oil paints and cold wax medium. The oil paint and wax are smushed together on a palette and applied with knives, scrapers, sponges and brushes. It is like painting with soft butter, creating smeary, translucent layers of unique blended colors. Powdered marble, pigments, paper and fiber can all add heavy texture and depth when combined with the waxy paint.
I was hooked after my first experiment with this medium that doesn’t require any harsh chemicals and cleans up with water! Now I am offering classes in my studio to teach others how to create with cold wax and oil paint.
I love to experience other cultures through travel and take photos to inspire paintings with the colors, shapes and beauty of nature. My work can be realistic, impressionistic or abstract, and paintings range from small desk top art to large pieces that can fill a wall.
