Gay Jegers

My works usually begin with color, one that is just begging me to play with it. The first mark always leads me on a journey and points to the next color, mark or collage piece. This mark-making is like call and response; it is my inner self sending out emotions and feelings and my artist self attempting to express them through the colors and marks. I never know where a piece will end, at some point I just know it is done.

I create art to play, and to wonder, and to experiment. Yes. And, I create art to connect; to connect to my emotions and unconscious self, to express them on a surface with color and mark, and to connect with those who view my work at some level beyond the surface.

Our lives are our art and I express my life through my art.
