There is no feeling like that of working with molten glass: the glow of the glass, the way it flows and the intense heat radiating from the piece. 30 years ago, I started working with glass by making beads, which led to paperweights and then blown glass. Having recently retired I am able to delve deeper into the creative world of blown glass. For me the most engaging part of glass work is the interplay of color in a fluid three-dimensional medium. By manipulating variables such as size, shape, thickness and order of application the effects of color combinations change dramatically allowing for an infinite range of possibilities. Glass also has a utilitarian aspect bringing it into our everyday lives as a reminder that art and life do not have to be separated.
