About

I retired after over twenty-eight years in law enforcement and found myself craving creative outlets. I had taken clay related courses in high school and college, and I loved working in clay. I always had ambitions to resume similar work, but life and a career distracted me from such endeavors. So, when I was told of the sculpting classes at JCLee Studios in Auburn, I jumped in to taking classes. I found a supportive community in which to develop my skills. I found my people.

I work with water-based clay. The pieces are finished with either metal coating or acrylic paint and metal wax. I love the feel of the clay, it brings back childhood memories of making mud pies. Each piece I create is approached with a specific challenge in mind and is an exercise in expanding my skills. This includes playing with different facial expressions or details. I try to find one aspect that I haven’t tried before. Sometimes it is successful, other times not so much.

As much as I am motivated by the creative process and the satisfaction of creating a tangible piece of art, I enjoy the reaction of others. I feel honored when someone tells me they are moved by my art.
