A moment in a place can change what you see. A moment can give me an idea to explore. As a textile and multimedia artist, I am drawn to subtle details, frozen moments in the landscape around me. In my travels, on a hike, or in the garden, I observe the ways color, form, and texture interact with one another.
When in the studio, my work is the intersection of an idea and a journey. My wearable and 3D pieces are created using many layers of color and texture. I work with all natural materials, using traditional and nontraditional methods to create a piece that evokes a place, a moment, or tells a story. I love the tactile qualities of wool, silk, natural bits and bobs of things collected, pigment paints, paper, pencil, and whatever comes to mind. There is a spontaneity in how the materials respond to give each piece its own personality.
Currently my work is centered around Botanical Printing with natural dyes using the flora of our foothill landscape to bring nature into the studio. My joy is in the journey.
