Terry Shearn
Terry Shearn is an award-winning Fiber/Textile artist whose work is created using hand dyed silks, or silk lap, hand dyed wool roving and other natural fibers. Her pallet includes items such as wool locks, mohair, thread, recycled sari silk. As the fabric is created, so is the item or garment making it a flowing sculptural experience. Hats are created using hand dyed wool roving in layers to create a seamless form that is then sculpted into warm, unique wearable art.
Terry also uses natural dyes such as Eucalyptus or Walnut leaves, branches and bark to create both prints from the botanicals or dye baths. in her process. These natural dyes create earthy, natural patterns on wearable art, table runners, and framed art pieces.
In the past few years she has branched into sculptural pieces using techniques evolved from other creations and the many metal arts classes and other various workshops she has attended. Block printing has also been a new adventure.
Terry has been working in this medium since 2010 and has been a costume designer for over 30 years previously creating items for local Shakespeare Festivals, SCA and Themed weddings.
Terry also enjoys sharing her techniques, giving local workshops to the wonderful full-week art immersion of Feather River Art Camp. She lives and creates in the beautiful Sierra Foothills town of Auburn, where she finds her inspiration from the surrounding natural world.
