Barbara Ann Chestnutt
I am a maker. I’ve always been a maker.
I’ve dabbled in various mediums but clay and handmade paper are my favorites. Currently I am making two kinds of ceramic work: hand built tableware and sculpture.
To create the tableware I roll a slab, texture and stamp it with observational, motivational, or irreverent sassy quotes, and construct a form. My aim with this work is to entertain and connect with others through shared experiences and start conversations.
The sculptural work takes two paths. The first is to express my personal experiences and process my feelings. The second is an exploration of form based on Japanese stone lanterns for the garden.
Keeping my hands “dirty” keeps my heart happy and my spirit grounded.
