Detailed Information

Chris Allan grew up in Canada, moved to the U.S. in 1980, and is now a Sierra Foothills-based photographer who seeks to create art that touches people in any kind of emotional, intellectual, spiritual way. She first started taking pictures of family, friends and various adventures with her father’s old Minolta in the early 1980’s. Back then, she was purely self-taught and didn’t have much extra money for good equipment and processing. However, there was nothing she liked better than being outside exploring the world through her lenses.

As the years progressed, she became established as a freelance writer and photographer, even as she worked to improve her knowledge of both the painterly and photographic canons. Her articles and images were published in numerous publications, while book and CD covers, non-profit organizational photography and stock photography got added into the mix as well. She has also enjoyed teaching photography over the years to high school students.

In 2013, she had her first solo show “Rainbow Connection” at the Sacramento Gay and Lesbian Center. Since then, she has completed the General and Fine Art Photography programs at Cosumnes River College, and her photos have been exhibited in Roseville, Folsom, Sacramento, Clarksburg, Woodland, and San Diego. Additionally, she has been honored with a variety of awards in regional juried exhibits, including Elk Grove Artists, Viewpoint Gallery, AARP LGBTQ Art Competition, Sacramento Fine Arts Center, and the California State Fair.

Abstract nature images, urban reflections, the plight of animals in captivity and experimental digital art techniques are a few of her current projects and passions. She works in a meditative way to be as present with whatever subject lies before me and to find ways to go deeper with them. At this point she does almost all of her own archival matting, printing and framing and increasingly enjoys the choices open in this area of the craft.

Chris has a studio shop in downtown Auburn located at 1230 High Street, #116. Her own art is for sale, and she offers printing, matting, and framing services to the wider community.

Chris has been honored with a variety of awards in juried exhibits, including Elk Grove Artists, Viewpoint Gallery, AARP LGBTQ Art Competition, Sacramento Fine Arts Center and the California State Fair.
