Kirsty Roberts
I create with 20 gauge Hex mesh wire. I mold and stretch the wire by hand, each piece takes on character as they evolve through the creative process. Animals with feathers ,fins, fur or mane, can appear to have flow, a sense of enchantment or action in the pose. I add driftwood, weathered wood, screen, faceted beads and natural crystals ,to give definition and details to the pieces.
I enjoy the challenges of the wire and will continue to find ways to add fun and functionality to my work. I refer to my style of work as “Topiary Style Sculptures,” due to the openness and airy nature of the Hex Mesh wire.
The wire I use is unique. It holds it shape ,without the use of framework ,so it keeps the open feel, without obstructing the final design. I was inspired by landscapers who can shape bushes ,trees and foliage, or create beautiful trellises for flowering Vines. My favorite subjects are Horses, Birds and Garden ladies, such as fairies and Angels. I also create Baskets in some pieces, for plants, flowers or floral arrangements. These can be enjoyed in indoor or outdoor Spaces. You can see my work at High-Hand Art Gallery in Loomis and in Auburn Old Town Gallery.
