Paintings are a way to bring the beauty found around our world into our homes. My paintings are inspired by my travels both real and imagined, and by books, history and my garden.
The materials found in my work are varied and always evolving. I use acrylic paints and mediums to create transparent layers in landscapes, still lifes, and wildlife images. My paintings are often impressionistic, sometimes abstract, and range from large wall size works to tiny desk top art.
This year I am experimenting with oil paint and cold wax, applied with palette knives and scrapers. It is like painting with butter, hard to control but yielding an endless variety of color combinations. Powdered pigments, minerals, paper, and fiber all add texture and depth when blended with the waxy paint.
